Blatantly biased CNN host Brian Stelter has finally blurted out the obvious. Yes, he did let Parkland, Florida school shooting survivor turned militant activist David Hogg tell lies during an interview.
Stelter, host of the media critique show ‘Reliable Sources,’ acknowledged that during his February 25 interview with Hogg, he let the outspoken student get away with a number of false claims about firearms and the NRA.
Stelter’s admission came during an appearance on HLN’s ‘S.E.Cupp Unfiltered” on Monday March 26. Cupp had asked Stelter if he thought that, “as a business [the media] have been giving these kids a lot of coverage….But the policies is the tough part. Do you think in showing these kids so often, as often as we all do, we’re actually doing them a disservice because the policy is actually what’s going to change all of this? The passion, I fear will just sound like noise after a while and people will tune it out.”
“A disservice is a strong word,” Stelter said. “But when I was interviewing David Hogg only ten days after the massacre, there were a few times I wanted to jump in and say let’s correct that.”
“That’s so interesting, let me stop you.” Cupp replied. “Did you?”
“At one of those times I did, and other times I did not,” Stelter replied. “There’s always that balance, how many times you’re going to interrupt.”
Cupp agreed it was a tricky thing, “But at the same time, if we hear something that is demonstrably untrue, you want to go in and say that’s not right.”
Stelter pointed out that when [Hogg] called Dana Loesch the NRA CEO he “interrupted and corrected that. But there are other times when — I think all of us can agree, any of these students, any of these parents, we want everybody to be as well informed as we can about contours of the debate.”
This information should come as a surprise to those Parkland student survivors who disagree with gun grabbers Hogg, et al. Student Kyle Kashuv for example is one of a number of students excluded from many media events, including marches. Granted, while the ‘Parkland kids’ were grinning in photo ops and freezing out their conservative counterparts, Kashuv was meeting with President Trump, the First Lady, and politicians from both sides of the aisle in a sincere, respectful and successful effort to establish a dialogue for change.
Stelter then attempted to defend Hogg’s misinformation by pointing out his ‘passion for the issue.’ Stelter claimed that “there has been an increase in the lethality of mass shootings in recent years in this country. The so-called top ten list of horrors is very, very ugly and very recent…I do think they’re trying to raise awareness of that.” Unfortunately, CNN’s own “fast facts”, updated in February of this year disagree, indicating that three of the top ten deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history occurred back before Bill Clinton became president. Moreover, a greater number of people were killed in those terrible events than at the Parkland school shooting.
Stelter also took exception to an observation Cupp made about the celebrities and politicians joining the students being emotional and passionate. “I think that was a cheap shot to say it was about celebrities,” he snapped. “The people out there in New York were not out there to see celebrities.” (Cupp never said the nationwide gun control rallies were about celebrities — she said the celebrities were passionate.)
During a February 23 appearance, Stelter appeared openly to endorse ‘journalists’ becoming gun control advocates because ‘all they want to do is save lives’ — the implication being that if a journalist is anything other than a gun control advocate, they do not want to save lives.
Adding to the controversy over Stelter’s February 25, 2018 interview with anti-gun activist David Hogg is the fact that Hogg was seated next to disgraced news anchor Dan Rather, who was fired from CBS News after airing a fake news report concerning then President George W. Bush’s Air National Guard service. Apparently, Rather was discussing Hogg’s interest in a career in journalism.
Cupp noted the politics of the issue. “People who are for the Second Amendment are single issue voters. They will turn out for this. The people who are not, this is not a big driver, especially in a midterm. I just don’t know that you’re going to see it.”
